Kids These Days

They are the ones changing the food system. Watch very impressive 11 year old Birke Baehr talk about his commitment to local food at a recent TEDx youth event. If kids get excited about changing the food system, that's big. Because let's face it - when I was 11 years old, Cinnamon Toast Crunch was at the height of my food world. Birke here is advocating for locally grown baked kale chips. Change is happening.

And Michael Pollan has out a book for kids called The Omnivores Dilemma for Kids. He's looking for kids to ask a simple question: "What's [really] for dinner?" Kids have opinions on this issue too, and having kids interested in the food they eat is important. It's not to say that McDonalds and Cinnamon Toast Crunch won't continue to be a favorite for kids. But these changes are important too.
